A Weekend in Windermere

A month or so ago, Ankush and I went to one of our favourite places for the weekend. The Lake District is only 1.5 hours away from our house so it’s silly we don’t visit more often.

As it was the weekend of the Great North Swim, most places were already fully booked but we managed to get a room in a guest house in Windermere. Oakthwaite is a relatively new guest house (I actually can’t remember how long it’s been open – I didn’t write it down) and is just stunning. The guest house has two double bedrooms – which I didn’t realise at the time of booking – so is perfect if you’re going away with another couple/friends/family as you literally have the place to yourselves. Breakfast was continental style and the location was so tranquil, the view of the the large garden from our bedroom was beautiful too. Deborah was very accommodating and friendly, I’d love to go back and stay again! I’m keeping this post as short as possible because I realise I go on and on sometimes… (BTW, just came back to proofread and the post is still majorly massive, mostly with photographs though).

Here are some photos of Oakthwaite, Windermere, boat trip to Ambleside and the drive to Grasmere/Keswick, oh and food. OBVIOUSLY.

and obviously this blog wouldn’t be complete without some food pics… I’m fasting today (5:2er) and haven’t had dinner yet and these pics definitely aren’t helping matters!

I’ll finish off with a comedy selfie of Ankush and I … Not entirely sure why we pulled these faces, but we did! Where do you stay when you go to the Lakes?

    Lovely pics.
I have so many of the same places too. I love the Lakes, we go often. Last time we went we staed at Rum Doodle in Windermere. We’re going down in September for a week.

    1. Thanks Cat! I will have to look at Rum Doodle for the next time we visit. We’re so lucky that it’s so close to us… sometimes it takes me an hour to get home from work, so can’t complain about an hour and a half! Hope you take lots of pics in September, not long to wait! x

  3. This looks lovely!

Despite living only an hour or so away, I’ve never yet been to the lakes! After this post though I might book a little night away I think one weekend. It looks super peaceful x

    1. It’s so lovely Katy! You should definitely go if you’re only an hour away 🙂 it’s really peaceful (but can get really busy with tourists too). I love it. Do let me know if you decide to go. X

  4. Love this so much! It REALLY frustrates me that we don’t have a car at the moment. One of the things that I loved most about relocating to the North East is how close we are to so many beautiful places – the Lakes, Scotland, North Yorkshire, Northumberland … but you kinda need a car to get to them all!

We’re off to Centre Parks in the Lakes in September so I’m hoping we’ll go for a little explore whilst we’re there cos I’m absolutely desperate to get out and about!

Your trip looks beautiful, I’m very jealous!

    1. Thanks Chloe, so pleased you like it! We didn’t have a car for quite a while after we got married and I will never forget how happy we were when we got ours – just knowing we could wherever we wanted, whenever we wanted! One of the first trips we made was to the Lakes…
September isn’t too long away, you’re going to have an amazing time!
SO looking forward to the meet-up in a few weeks 🙂 x x

Lovely post Shivani! As you know the Lakes is my number 1 place to visit in the UK (possibly the world…) and you’ve captured it beautifully here. I like to stay in Grasmere, Keswick or Coniston usually, depending on which mountains we’ve decided to climb! Would definitely recommend the Langdale Hotel and Spa to anyone who wants a bit of pampering, such a gorgeous place 🙂 x P.S. Drooling over the food pics!

    1. Thanks Sarah! The Lake District really is a special place – we’re lucky it’s on our doorstep! I’ve never stayed in Keswick or Coniston… Need to make more trips! X
